Line dances do not require a partner. The dance pattern generally has the person
stay roughly in the same place but execute a move to face a new wall
Line dances
Partner / circle dances are often associated with country western music but can be done to many songs.
The couples move in a large counter clockwise circle around the dance floor.
Each couple is basically doing the same moves but often with minor modifications (e.g. adding turns).
Partner / circle dances
Sequence dances are based on ballroom dance steps.
The couples move in a large counter clockwise circle around the dance floor.
Each couple is basically doing the same moves but generally without modifications.
Sequence dances
Social dances are typical dances done in clubs, on cruise ship, at weddings, etc.
While these dances should be done in a larger circle, the reality is that they are done admist other dancers who do not dance in a large circle. But these dance elements offer more flexibility to cope with competition for dance space than fixed pattern dances such as Line Dances, Partner Circle Dances, or Sequence Dances.
